Childersburg Council Bans Hemp Sales, Approves Fees, Grants and Budgets in Rapid Session
The Childersburg City Council voted to adopt Ordinance 1159, imposing a one‑year moratorium on hemp sales within city limits at the request of the State ABC Board.
In a swift move, the council passed Resolution 2026-29, establishing a discovery fee schedule to cover labor and printing costs for document requests, following a September 1 measure on records requests at City Hall.
Two members of the Childersburg Housing Authority were reappointed: Gene Piatkowski will serve until February 3, 2030, and Frank Black will serve until February 3, 2031.
The council authorized a $300 advertisement with the Childersburg Tip‑Off Club, to be paid from Fund 23‑LRA.
Fiscal Year 2027 Fraternal Order of Police dues for 17 Childersburg Police officers, totaling $510, were approved for payment from Fund 10.
Payments amounting to $109,530.08 across multiple invoices received council approval.
The next regular council meeting is set for Tuesday, October 6 at 6:00 p.m., after a 5:30 p.m. work session.
During the pre‑meeting work session, officials announced an $800,000 TAP Grant awarded for sidewalk and lamppost improvements along the remainder of First St. and 8th Ave.
A representative of the Talladega County Drug Task Force appeared before the council to request additional funding for heightened operational expenses.
Mayor Ken Wesson said E‑911 will readdress Coosa Pines Dr. and several intersecting roads, affecting roughly 120 addresses, and the city has no authority over the changes.
