GCB Bank employees have launched the “Helmet On, Life On” campaign, delivering road‑safety training to more than 500 motorcycle riders in the Accra Central Business District.
The initiative targets commercial riders, delivery staff and pillion passengers across high‑traffic zones such as Makola Market, Tudu, Kantamanto, Agbogbloshie and Kinbu‑High Street.
GCB’s Community Impact Programme
GCB’s 2026 Staff Community Impact Programme (SCIP) backs the effort as the 16th of 95 employee‑driven projects aimed at reaching one million Ghanaians.
Road‑safety experts from the National Road Safety Authority and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department co‑facilitated workshops that teach defensive riding, hazard spotting, proper helmet use and emergency response.
Participants receive a Safe Rider Certificate and an identification badge, reinforcing responsible behaviour and creating a network of safety‑focused riders.
Sadat Laminu, Head of Corporate Affairs at GCB Bank, said SCIP empowers staff to spot community needs and craft practical solutions across sectors such as health, education, environment and public safety.
Juliet Onny, Accra Central Zonal Manager, added that riders are key to CBD mobility yet face high crash risks, so the training equips them with actionable skills to protect themselves and their passengers.
A network of Safe Rider Ambassadors will sustain outreach, linking riders, transport groups and safety agencies for ongoing education beyond the initial rollout.
The campaign underscores GCB employees’ commitment to preventive community action that safeguards lives, livelihoods and the economic vitality of Accra’s CBD.
