Kogi Police Arrest Two Suspects With 339 Wraps Of Suspected Indian Hemp

Details Of The Arrest

On May 9, 2026, officers from the Kabba Area Command of the Kogi State Police Command stopped a Honda Pilot Jeep (registration LSD 456 GE) along the Kabba‑Okene Road for a routine check. The vehicle was being driven by Chris Amos, 52, with Bilat Joseph, 36, seated as a passenger.

During the search, police operatives uncovered 339 wraps of a substance that preliminary testing indicated to be Indian hemp, a colloquial term for cannabis sativa. The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, announced the seizure at a press briefing held at the police headquarters in Lokoja on Tuesday.

According to CP Kankarofi, the suspects told investigators that they had collected the consignment in Ado‑Ekiti, Ekiti State, acting on instructions from an individual known only as “Alhaji.” The intended destination for the shipment was Yola, Adamawa State, where it was to be delivered to a client whose identity remains under investigation.

The recovered items — including the wraps, the vehicle, and the two suspects — have been secured for further analysis. CP Kankarofi confirmed that, upon completion of the police investigation, the case will be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution under Nigeria’s drug control laws.

He added that investigators are pursuing leads to identify any additional members of the suspected trafficking network and to ensure that all parties involved face appropriate legal action. The NDLEA routinely collaborates with state police commands to interdict illicit drug shipments and dismantle supply chains across the country.
