Fergus Falls Dispensaries Await Opening Amid Regulatory Hurdles
Almost ten months after receiving cannabis retail registrations, two recreational dispensaries in Fergus Falls have yet to open their doors. Local reporters have traced the delays to a mix of construction timelines, compliance questions, and challenges securing product inventory.
Elevate THC & CBD Dispensary Nears Completion
Co‑owner Kris Stach explained that Elevate THC & CBD Dispensary has been focused on rebuilding the interior of its space to meet state specifications. The renovation relied on local contractors, which helped keep costs manageable while the team waited for regulatory feedback.
Stach noted that the biggest obstacle has been the inventory room. State officials from the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) raised questions about door dimensions and the design of pass‑through windows. After a two‑month wait for clarification, the OCM advised the business to consult its attorneys rather than providing direct answers.
“Until you get to that point, it is almost impossible to get a straight answer on anything from OCM,” Stach said. The lack of clear guidance forced Elevate to move forward with its original plans while continuing to address compliance concerns.
Beyond the build‑out, sourcing cannabis products has also proved difficult. Despite these hurdles, Stach believes the dispensary is in the final stages. Once the state conducts its final inspection, the team plans to announce an official opening date and showcase the renovated facility to customers.
NB2A Investments LLC Faces Delays on Planned Storefront
The second venture, NB2A Investments LLC, holds a purchase agreement with the City of Fergus Falls to develop a storefront adjacent to the city‑owned Fergus Liquor at 2010 West Lincoln Avenue. City officials confirmed that the agreement remains active, but little progress has been made on actual construction plans.
Representatives of NB2A indicated that the owners, Roy Nielsen III and Nathan Miedema, are juggling multiple projects across Minnesota. They also reported difficulties obtaining cannabis inventory, a challenge echoed by other prospective retailers in the state. Attempts to obtain further comment from the company were unsuccessful; multiple contacts declined to speak, and attempts to reach Nielsen directly went unanswered.
City officials said they continue to monitor the situation and remain ready to assist should the owners decide to move forward with the build.
