Nairobi’s Central Business District will stay closed as police warn the Linda Mwananchi rally will not spill into the city’s financial heart. Commander Issa Mohamud said the restriction is meant to prevent violence and protect public safety.

Police Barricade CBD Ahead of Linda Mwananchi Rally

Organisers notified Embakasi East MP Babu Owino of the planned rally at Jacaranda Grounds on Sunday, September 13. The communication was made through the police.

Police received credible intelligence that individuals were recruiting goons to intimidate and disrupt the gathering. The tip led to the directive that the CBD remain off‑limits.

Mohamud emphasized that the National Police Service respects the constitutional right to assemble, demonstrate, and express political views, but insists such activities must be peaceful, lawful, and safe for all Kenyans. He said any deviation from these standards will be dealt with firmly.

He urged political leaders, rally organisers and influencers to restrain their supporters and keep crowds under control, warning that no political goal justifies a Kenyan’s blood. The police chief warned that unrest could endanger lives and damage the city’s reputation.

Mohamud assured organisers and attendees that police will provide full security throughout the event and facilitate lawful participation. Security personnel will be deployed to monitor crowds and ensure order throughout the day.

The rally will commence at All Saints Cathedral and march to Jacaranda Grounds, the designated venue for the gathering. Authorities expect a large turnout and have prepared logistical support for the event.
