Adelaide’s CBD will host a 25‑metre Christmas tree this festive season, taking centre stage in Victoria Square/Tarndanyangga.
New Landmark Debuts Ahead of November 14 Pageant
The 25‑metre tree, designed by Visual Inspirations, will be installed before the National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant on 14 November 2026, becoming the city’s new festive centrepiece.
Lord Mayor Dr Jane Lomax‑Smith said the tree replaces a three‑decade‑old fixture and will be “hard to miss” with its size and interactive lighting.
“This is more than a new Christmas tree; it is a purpose‑designed, interactive light and sound experience that will become a major feature of the City’s Christmas program,” she added.
The 25‑metre height and 66,500 LED bulbs ensure visibility across the CBD, where nearly 500,000 visitors flock each December.
Dr Lomax‑Smith noted that the tree will boost foot traffic, encouraging shoppers, diners and market-goers to stay longer and spend more.
Design Details and South Australian Theme
Visual Inspirations Project Designer Katharine Zulberti said the tree was crafted to feel “unmistakably South Australian”.
“Every decorative element was carefully considered, from a colour palette inspired by the landscape to forms that echo city architecture and the constellations above,” she explained.
The design incorporates 3400 state‑of‑the‑art decorations and a 3‑metre illuminated star, creating a cohesive visual story that links land, city and sky.
At night, thousands of programmable LEDs synchronise with music, delivering an immersive light‑and‑sound spectacle.
First Lighting Ceremony Draws Crowd
More than 10,000 people are expected to gather on the evening of 21 November for the official lighting ceremony, marking the tree’s inaugural illumination.
City businesses hope the new landmark will increase visitation and reinforce Adelaide’s reputation as a premier Christmas destination.
