Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit Seizes Cannabis Products in uMhlanga Shop

On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit carried out intelligence‑driven operations across Durban, resulting in the arrest of three suspects linked to drug dealing activities. The operations were conducted in coordination with the Economic Infrastructure Task Team and targeted known hotspots for narcotics distribution.

Operation Overview

The first sting took place in the Point area of Durban, where officers apprehended two individuals found in possession of a variety of substances. According to Lieutenant Colonel Magwaza, the national police spokesperson, the seized inventory included rock cocaine, ecstasy, crystal meth, heroin, and cocaine powder. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs amounts to R211 000.

Both suspects, aged between 30 and 40 years, were charged with dealing in drugs and are set to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on July 22.

Second Operation and Cannabis Seizure

Following the Point operation, the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Team, together with the Economic Infrastructure Task Team, executed a second raid in Morningside on Florida Road. This action led to the arrest of a 25‑year‑old suspect allegedly involved in cannabis distribution.

Officers then proceeded to a cannabis shop in uMhlanga, where they confiscated additional cannabis products. The uMhlanga operation forms part of a broader effort to curb illegal drug sales in coastal KwaZulu‑Natal.

Official Statement

Lieutenant Colonel Magwaza commented on the outcome:

“In the first operation, police officers conducted a sting operation at Point area in Durban where they arrested two suspects found in possession of an assortment of narcotics, including rock cocaine, ecstasy crystal meth, heroin and cocaine powder. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R211 000. Both the suspects aged between 30 and 40 years old were charged for dealing in drugs. In another operation, conducted in Morningside in a shop on Florida Road, by the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Team as well as the Economic Infrastructure Task Team, it led to the arrest of a 25‑year‑old suspect for dealing in cannabis. Police then proceeded to another shop at uMhlanga where they seized more cannabis products.”

Next Steps

All three suspects are scheduled to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on July 22, facing charges related to drug dealing. The Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit indicates that further investigations are underway to identify any additional participants in the network.
